What's the method for getting Windows 11 on the Mac Pro 5,1 without using OC? Legacy boot with DL DVD? Windows 11 won't fit on a standard DVD so was wondering about the dual layer DVD. Or is there a way without using DVD drive?

you guys should be very careful to boot windows not out of OpenCore nvram protection when it comes to Uefi Windows.

And make a backup before fiddling with Windows and _no_ DVD installs.

See my sig for a backup and analyzing tool

I have a backup ROM rebuilt by tsialex but I am aware of the issues from the UEFI installs. I have two MPs running OC and Windows 10/11 but was wanting a system without OC.

@Dayo RefindPlus variant has also a nvram protection.
And works without OpenCore, if configured.

This is funny. I just did this today.

  • I Downloaded the High Sierra iso and made a bootable USB.
  • I Downloaded Windows 7 iso and burned to a DVD.
  • I Downloaded Windows 11 iso 22H2 Version. Did the appraiserres.dll File Mod and burned to DVD. Appraiserres.dll File Mod removed the Security Check for Unsupported Machines. Just replace the OEM FILE with the new one.
  • Appraisetters.dll File ( https://tips2fix.com/how-to-install-windows-11-to-unsupported-pc-released-version-october-5/ )
  • After you do the Appraisetters.dll File Mod burn to DVD.
  • I Opened Bootcamp assistant and followed the direction.
  • I Partitioned the Mac HD to 500 GB and Bootcamp to 1.5TB
  • After Windows 7 was installed, I rebooted.
  • Then I placed the Windows 11 DVD in. Opened the DVD and clicked on SETUP.
  • You will have to Click FORMAT once you get to this part in the Windows 11 Setup.
  • Once Format is complete then the NEXT Button will turn from GREY to BLACK and you can continue with Set-Up.
  • The Mac Pro will boot into Windows once you install Windows 7 and Windows 11.
  • The only way to get back into High Sierra is to Hold the Option Key after Reboot or upon Start-Up.
  • Otherwise, it will always Boot into Windows. Which is what I wanted.
  • Update Windows 11 and you are done.

Now to get your Bluetooth to work you will need to do the following:

Do this after you are done with Windows 11.

  • Open WINDOWS SUPPORT FOLDER on your Bootcamp USB Drive
  • Go to the DRIVERS FOLDER
  • Go to the APPLE FOLDER
  • Go to x64 FOLDER
  • Double click on the AppleBlutoothBroadcomInstaller64.exe FILE, install.
  • Bam now your Bluetooth will work.
Enjoy Windows 11 without OCLP

One more thing. If you have a Windows 10 machine. Pull the Windows Product Key Code from that machine. You can use a Windows 10 Product Key Code for Windows 11. What every version Windows 10 is on the Machine will be the version of Windows 11. ie.. Mine was Windows 10 Home 64 bit. Which is now Windows 11 Home 64 bit.

have you checked:

The Windows disk has no ESP?
The Mac firmware has got no certificate?
Firmware clean. Got Windows 11 booted via legacy by...

Using rufus to create a Windows 11 USB installer with the hardware requirements removed. Then used IMGBURN to create an ISO with from the newly created USB. Used IMGBURN to create the DVD+DL from the new ISO. Booted the DVD and installed Windows 11 to SSD. Verified legacy boot and no Windows certs in ROM (thanks to your amazing piece of software). Used brigadier and downloaded the driver packs 5,1 and 1,1 and all seems to be well with 11.

BTW - if anyone is in the Mid Missouri USA area, I have a working Mac Pro 2009 and 2010 available for free. Shipping is a pain so you'd have to pick up or send a box.

This project makes progress:

After Windows 11 install, only one driver from Apple, bluetooth. On the cinema display I added the null driver for iSight and and brightness controller app to control the display. Everything else works "right out of the box" so to speak. The latter wasn't needed though for a simple hdmi/dvi monitor. The EnableGop'd RX580 works great in Windows.

When I tried this using Windows 10 the Bluetooth driver refused to load - it complained about being unsigned so I had to go find a wired mouse connection. This was direct from Apple's driver download (the bootcamp package).

My method to install was to try using the W10 ISO to a separate SSD via VirtualBox - but this method is very difficult as well, on restart I ended up with a blank screen (RX6600 Radeon GPU). I got around that by finishing install in Virtual Box and then trying to restart and boot natively into Windows via the opencore menu. And then was when the driver hassles occurred.

It was just experimenting so I didn't buy any new windows licenses. I can wipe the SSD and install again if I need to.

I used brigadier and downloaded the Apple driver packages. In Window 10, I used more drivers from Apple but in 11, only the one Bluetooth driver. One of the easiest Windows installs I have done. I use Windows probably 90% of the time so that is the reason I wanted 11. Speaking of license, I didn't get a new license. Windows 11 activated without entering key, guessing due to having 10 already on that machine.
