So Id like to get a 2k resolution monitor, to work with ATI 5770. Most of those monitors have a displayport or HDMI connection. How can I get 2k resolution? 5770 has dual mini displayport and a dvi.

Would a mini displayport to HDMI adapter give me 2k? Are there mini displayport to displayport adapters? I would need an active adapter correct?

If the monitor has a 144hz refresh rate, any way to make that work? I know hdmi is capped at 60h.

2k is spec'ed as 2048 × 1080. The ATI 5770 will support an Apple Cinema, which (like the Thunderbolt) is 2560x1440.
So 2k is not a problem with mini display port.

Yes I did get mini display port working with 2k.

Now, you know how windows has that scaling function where you can do 125 or 150% in order to see better? Text and icons are so small! Is there a good work around for this on the mac?

Just an FYI, the Apple Cinema Display 30" is 2560x1600, so a few more pixels vertically than the 27" TB (and LED Cinema) Display. In any case, I believe even the lowly GT120 will drive a pair of 30-inchers, so the 5770 will have no trouble w/ those, or with the 2K/1080p that the OP is asking about...

I've never seen a 2K display, so I guess he's talking about WQHD or 2560x1080 or something like that.

Anyway, there's no "simple" scaling function in OS X, so you have to use HiDPI resolutions (which might be difficult on a HD 5770). There are lots of threads on this topic.
