MP 1,1-5,1 Mac Pro 5,1 attacked by dog pee!

I have a 5,1 2.66 12-core. My processor board is now toast thanks to my sister-in-law's dog cocking his leg on my computer. A UV light on the affected area did not show urine (it glowed bright yellow, but just on the case), but there was a little dried liquid of some sort on the processor board, likely from my cleanup efforts. It wasn't much at all, but it was enough.

I'm trying to find a replacement processor board, but the things on eBay, when they come up, are roughly as expensive as buying an entire 5,1 computer. A Google search for 5,1 dual boards predominately made references to eBay sales. I did replace the computer with a 5,1 six-core since I needed a replacement ASAP and didn't really need 12 cores. Most apps actually run a bit faster now. I was also able to cannibalized the drives and the 580 GPU from the 12-core and put them into the new six-core. So my question is, does anyone know of a source for reasonably priced 5,1 dual processor boards? A 4,1 won't work. I hate the idea of just pulling the RAM and wi-fi card and sending it off to be recycled. I'd pull the motherboard too, but I have no way of knowing if it survived the process. Thanks!!!

No insurance, but she did indeed pony up the cost of replacement. I'm just in shock at how a replacement dual processor board costs as much as a complete dual processor computer. But I suppose it's not all that different than having an older (but really reliable) car that blows a tranny, but the transmission replacement costs is more than the blue book value of the car. I'll keep looking though. ;-)

I'm not an early adopter of tech, no matter who makes it. I'll likely do with my "new" 6-core what I did with my G5 and 3,1. As long as they make me money or have a utilitarian purpose of some sort, I'll run them into the ground and let someone else deal with the teething pains of a first gen product. This is especially true with a drastic shift like moving to ARM from Intel.

That so funny! Sticking with the 5,1 though. And didn't they use casks of brandy? Even the 6,1 might be on an accelerated road to the junk heap with move to ARM. Should be an interesting couple of years.

Well, I gave up finding a 12-core board. The cheapest one I've run across so far is 400 USD plus shipping. That's a big chunk of the price for me to build the second Windoze box I need, so the purchase was hard to justify. But I did just buy a 3.33 6-core off of eBay to replace the 12-core board. Found one on eBay for $149.00 USD. I think I'll use it for low-level gaming under Bootcamp and as the home's media server. Kind of overkill for a media server, but it's really just a 149 dollar computer now.

The lesson I've learned here is to keep your desktops off of the floor if you have a male dog or there is even a chance a male dog will visit your home.

EDIT. The OK outfit rarely carries processor boards. She referred me to DV Warehouse. $895.00 USD for a dual 5,1 board.

Couldn't agree more. Having said that, I did pick up a 3.33 six-core board from eBay for a $149.00. It should be here next week. It will be a second computer since I bought an entire 3.33 5,1 to replace the 12 core rig right after the pee incident. Pretty happy with the six core since I don't really do anything anymore requiring 12 cores. Likely I'll use the second computer as a low-level gaming rig under Windows or as a home media center under MacOS. Or, I'll just sell it on eBay. No idea at this point, but having it up and running is better than having a dead computer gathering dust in my garage.
