Hi,

I'm having a very strange problem. Computer has been perfect for the last 9 years, but today, I can't seem to update to 10.13.6. I got the combo update file since I'm on 10.13.2. Everything goes smoothly, the computer restarts after the install like it says it will, but then it always remains at 10.13.2. No errors or anything. I swapped back my original 5870 graphics card since I thought that might be the issue. No luck. Everything else is 100% stock (other than SSD).

I googled around but couldn't find anything. The combo update seems like it works for most people, but not for me. Any idea what the issue could be?

Thanks!

From memory, this "unable to update" does exist around 10.13.3 period. I can't quite remember if anyone ever figure out the reason. But I think you can simply download the latest 10.13.6 FULL installer to install 10.13.6, not necessary go for the Appstore update or combo update.

Thanks for the quick reply. With the full 10.13.6, does it lets me "upgrade" my existing install during the install process? Not looking to do a full clean install of MacOS. Just want to upgrade my existing one and not lose anything.

As long as you don't delete anything by yourself. It will only install the OS, and keep all the user files / data. Which effectively same as OS update.

Definitely NOT a clean installation. All the OS files will be replaced by the full installer's version (no matter they are newer or the same). Little bit less effective than combo updater which only replaced the files that have newer version. May take few more minutes to finish the same job.

Awesome, thanks for all the help! Hopefully it goes smoothly.
