Hi,

I received my Mac Pro 5,1 but it arrived damaged - see pics.

I've tried to boot from it but no start up chime, there is a Red LED near the CPU heatsink which is permanently on. No other LEDs are lit that I can see. I've looked in the technical manual and the next step seems to be removing everything from the Mac. However as it's damaged, I'm waiting to hear back from the shipping company after making a claim so I don't really want to strip it down at the moment. Is there anything I can so to try to find out what's working and what's broken without stripping it?

All the Best
Dave

Not having any information of said LED to go on i would suggest maybe try re-seating the ram. And check all your connections. Maybe you will get lucky.

Sorry, I thought I had attached the image of the LED, it seems not, here it is. I've taken out all the SATA drives on the Lower Bay, when I power on I can hear it accessing the DVD drive.

I took the Processor board out and found something rattling around on the bottom of the case - see pics. It looks like its it ripped from the motherboard - something to do with power?

It looks like one the power connectors; left and right to the main-connector backplane-cpu-tray.

If you bought this item, you should ask for refund. The damage is typical for faulty packing.

Yes, it is insured, I am waiting to hear back from them but I should get a refund by the 24th. I'm not sure if they will want the broken machine back, but if not I guess I have some spare parts!

Not your problem.
The seller is responsible for a good and safe packaging, the machine is serios damaged and worthless.

Thats the main power supply for the cpu tray, 12 volts.

If thats all, one can make wires to supply the tray.

Serious damage, of course. Never have seen that, even I had a few damages due to intelligent packaging.

Well, the rear "foot" is dented and the machine wobbles (see first pics), I suppose I might be able to pull it back into shape but it would take some doing!
