2010 running latest 144 firmware. Stock Redeon GPU. No other PCI cards. One SATA SSD with High Sierra. Have reset SMC and NVRAM. Using wired Apple keyboard. It will not show boot menu when I hold down the option key. It boots to High Sierra as if I wasn't pressing it. Not sure what else to do at this point. Have tried different SSD, GPU, Keyboard.

Have you tried a deep NVRAM reset by clearing it 3 times in a row? You should hear the startup chime 4 times before allowing the system to boot (or instead of booting, holding Option to access the Startup Manager / Boot Picker in this case).

You might need to release the Cmd+Opt+P+R keys for just an instant before each startup chime to allow the system to re-register the key press each time the system restarts.

I figured it out. I was using a mini-dp to hdmi adapter. Apparently, it doesnt like boot menus. Grabbed a DVI cable and it worked. 😂 #ThisWeekOnNoobsWithMacs
