Hello everyone. I have an issue and did not want to post on the Opencore post, as to not interfere with the great work that's happening.

Anyhow I just recently Installed Monterey, along with OCLP on my Mac Pro 5,1.

Hopefully someone can give me a fix.

I use a KVM switch to switch between my PC & Mac Pro. Now the Mac won't respond when I switch over to the Mac.

Works fine when I boot in the Mac and the wired mouse works as always, but when I switch to the PC and back to the Mac the mouse goes dead, but worked fine when I booted in the Mac. I even installed the Corsair harpoon driver on the Mac and it still doesn't respond.

I never had an issue switching back and forth on any other Mac OS, even without the Corsair mouse driver installed.

Is there something that needs to be injected into Opencore to get it to wake up ?

THANKS

What if you connect the mouse via a USB hub?

I don't have a USB hub, never thought of that.

I thought the KVM switch was essentially a USB hub?

Find it odd it would not respond. Never had an Issue switching between the two.

I switched back to my Mojave drive and works as expected, just to verify it's functionality and works fine, but not on Monterey.

Okay, so a USB hub before and then out to both computers and bypass the mouse switch on the KVM switch?

Thanks will do.

I think you'll find this interesting.

I never had no problems with my KVM switch, switching between my Mac Pro, Lion, Mt. Lion, EL Capitan, High Sierra & Mojave. I guess all supported. switching between the Mac & PC.

Of course now that I'm running Monterey I did a test. As I mentioned now it will work if I boot up on my Mac and the mouse is all lit up working fine. Then I switch to the PC, works fine, then when I switch back to the Mac the Mose goes dead, and lights out on the mouse as well.

I then shutdown and re-booted and tried this test. I plugged in a mouse straight to the Mac pro and of course another mouse still hooked up to the KVM switch and both working great when booted in the Mac pro.

Then I switch to the PC and back to the mac Pro and the mouse on the KVM switch goes dead, and lights out. Then also the other mouse plugged straight into the Mac pro also goes dead ? ( VERY ODD ), like something internally disables the USB ports, cause I tried that test on all free USB ports.

Nonetheless I will order a 2.0 USB hub, (AND) greatly appreciate your time.

I don't expect that "always connected" mouse also dead, really interesting to know.

Let's see if a USB hub can fix the issue for you.

I occasionally need to use wired mouse after boot to Monterey desktop, via a hub always works.

I suppose switching away with a KVM is equivalent to disconnection, and switching back to a reconnection, and that the device is not always connected (in terms of being active on the port) in reality.

If so, switching away and back would not work as it will be equivalent to pulling the mouse and trying to plug it back in (considering that hot plugging USB 1.x devices was lost with Monterey).

A hub should get around this as that would always be connected to the unit and stay active after the KVM switch away.

If I understand correctly. He connected 2 mouses to the cMP.

Mouse A) direct connection, no hub, no switch, checked can work after boot to desktop

Mouse B) connect via KVM

Mouse B of course effectively disconnected from the cMP when switched to PC. But Mouse A is still connected.

However, when switch Mouse B back to cMP via the KVM switch, Mouse A also dead. This is the "always connected mouse also dead".

Got it now. I wonder whether Mouse A was ever active to start with.
Does a second mouse ever become active if two are connected and an active one is pulled?
Never tried connecting two at once but assume only one is active in such a case.

both working great when booted in the Mac pro.
Answered my previous

Quite interesting. Wonder whether split between front and back ports.
That is whether same outcome if KVM is on a rear port and other is on a front port or vice versa.

EDIT. On reflection, OP does not actually say they were both working concurrently and may have tested each one separately.

Mouse (A) Mac, mouse (B) PC. As you know whatever the mouse is booted on, either Mac or PC. IF I boot on the Mac it works fine, the fine with the PC, but when I go back to the Mac the lights go out on the Mouse and DOA.

Here's another interesting thing. I now have a wireless mouse hooked up to the Apple keyboard and that works regardless, (BUT) BLUETOOTH is not turned. How does a wireless mouse work without the bluetooth turned on ?

Both on the rear ports. Although the other wired mouse was on the from port, but that also would quit working and replugin and still DOA.

WEIRD

Never had the problem on Mojave.

The Apple keyboard is a USB hub.

How does a wireless mouse work without the bluetooth turned on ?
A wireless BT mouse cannot work without BT. The mouse is paired with a receiver via BT at a hardware level and Mac OS is not involved in, and is not even aware of, this process. Note that a BT mouse that has its own receiver can be used on a computer that does not have a BT function at all.

Never had the problem on Mojave.
Mojave supports the old OHCI USB protocol used on the USB ports on cMP for mice but Apple removed this in Monterey as was explained.

In simplified terms, when you start your Mac, the old protocol is activated by your firmware (which supports it), your mouse is activated and stays active when you load Monterey. If you disconnect the mouse in Monterey, such as by switching away via a KVM, the OHCI protocol will not be available to activate the mouse if/when you try to reconnect.

You can get around this by connecting the mouse via a USB hub, such as in some keyboards, that use the newer supported protocols.
