how harmful can a usb3 card be so close to gpu?
do I run the risk that the GPU will heat up too much?
the cards do not touch each other, between gpu and usb about 5 millimeters.
I do a lot of video montages, so the card is always at work.
can the fan that runs so close to the sonnet usb3 compromise usb3 data with interference?
I know they seem silly questions. but i'm never sure to break my precious mac :)
thanks to who helps me.

I understand.
If I were you I would attach a thin piece of plastic to the sonnet card from underneath and let it extend a little more to the space between the two fans on the video card.

I have an RX580 in slot one, and a PCIe SSD in slot 2. They are close enough that I made a little spacer (about 1mm) to ensure the fan blades wouldn't hit. HD and 4K editing on all manner of FCPX projects - no issues.

From the picture, perhaps slot 4 is open? Can you move the USB3 card to slot 4?

I don't think that it would be an issue. One fan is completely open, and more than half of the second fan is open.

Maybe put a small plastic (non-conductive) spacer between the two to get an extra mm of clearance - but don't put too much force on the two cards.

Watch the temps when you put them under stress, and take other action if the temps are too high.

ho due SSD su PCI, slot 3 e slot 4
Sonnet USB3 sullo slot 2
rx580 sullo slot 1

tutti sono occupati.
ma non mi sento a mio agio. Ho paura di soffocare la gpu

Grazie

I decided to replace my Allegro Type A usb 3 sonnet card, with Fusion Dual 2.5-inch SSD RAID sonnet, so as to have in a single card 2 ssd and a usb c. in this way free slots over gpu.
I will keep owc accelsior s as the boot drive.
can there be contraindications? does anyone own it and can you give me feedback?
thanks

Why not use a NVMe SSD with the really small Adapter Card? For the price of the fusion card you can buy an adapter and a new NVMe SSD.

The problem is we don’t know your setup, so it is not easy to give you a solution.
What are the the two SSDs for? Are your 4 drive slots in use?

I switched from Sapphire 580 Pulse to Vega Frontier, but before this switch I had a bit more distance to my dual SSD card than you.

Sometimes one can get one or two mm by moving the cpu cage down a bit.

Open the 5 cpu support bolts and the backplane screws in that area and carefully force the cpu cage down a mm or two.

Yes, this gives an extra mm also.

Sounds nasty but 2mm from the cage and 1 mm from moving the Backplane is a lot if the cards are pretty close.
