MP 1,1-5,1 Mac Pro 5.1 + Rx 580 .. fans and high temperatures !! Help

Hello lads,
I have recently installed on my Mac Pro 5.1 mid 2010, a Shappire Rx 580 8gb gpu, but I have a problem with the fans always running and high temperatures 73 degrees 75 even 79

I didn't have this problem with the ati 5770 even though the video resolution was lower with the 32 inch 3840x2160 monitor
With the Shappire rx 580 I'm taking full advantage of the resolution
I would not want it to be the HDMI cable instead of the Dpi



How can I solve?

High temperatures where exactly? 79ºC for the northbridge is way over, should not go over 76º ever, but not for the CPU.

Btw, did you fully cleaned your Mac Pro internals recently? Checked the northbridge heatsink push-pins? Re-pasted the heatsink/CPU? Checked the RTC battery voltage?

It's a 10 to 12 years old Mac, you have to do preventive maintenance.

I think he mean the GPU temperature.

Many Sapphire RX580 actually use 75C as the target temperature

Which means, run at 75C is absolutely normal. In fact, the GPU trying to stay at that temperature (as long as the work load is high enough to do that).

And short fluctuate to 79C is also normal.

From memory, for Sapphire RX580, the fans should stay at zero RPM when the GPU temperature below 60C. Once above that, the fans will spin up, but stay at very low RPM, and let the GPU keep warming up to 75C. Then the fans will spin up more and more if the GPU temperature tends to go above 75C. Once the fans reach the max RPM, GPU temperature then can go up to 85C, then thermal throttling occur and let the GPU stay at 85C.

Anyway, as long as the GPU can stay at around 75C, there is nothing to worry about. AFAIK, stay at a relatively constant temperature can reduce thermal cycle waring. It's better to let it stay at 75C, but not keep fluctuating between 35C and 75C (of course, stay at 35C is even better, but that's not a realistic target).

The fans on the GPU should definitely not be running all the time.
They will only spin up when under load.

instal the iStat, u can control better what exactly is too hot, even in single trail, when export some fcpx intro, or some huge file in ps ( 2gb ) I creat an profile with some temps, and the stat control my fans, never be near the limit, and the GPU never get too hot too

Depends on a few things. if high OAT and multiple monitors connected, most likely the fans will spin all the time.

When I browse 8k photo example on google images, it starts to get up in rpm and temperature, I don't know if that's the case for you too

Scrolling through websites quickly shouldn't cause any dramas with the Sapphire RX580 - I had one running with a 5K screen at 5120x2880 and websites wouldn't bother it.

Even watching 4K video from Youtube did pretty much nothing. I would have to run Zwift at its maximum detail then the RX580 warms up to 75ºC and the fans spin up.

I'm sorry, but you can't just say "help, my fans are going nuts!" without giving us more details, man...

What OS are you using?
Are you using OpenCore? If so -- Do you have Lilu and WEG enabled? What about other boot args?

This is a wierd issue, but until we know answers to the above, I don't know how else we can be of assistance

I am using Osx 10.14.6, and I am not using opencore .. at least I don't think so (I don't know what it is)

Does you boot rom just say 144.0.0.0.0?
If you had OC it would look different.

I confirm it says only 144.0.0.0
however, since I changed the dpi cable it seems to be better, first he did it again while I was scrolling quickly in a whattupp chat where he had to reload previous conversations and photos.

the boost fans A and B were at 1350-1400 but the fan noise I am more than sure came from the gpu that the temperature had risen up to 78 ° and then returned to 58-60

It makes me strange that it is not stable with the temepratura ... I would not want that being in slot 1 does not remain cool underneath, since it almost leans against houses

This is probably normal, as the GPU having to work harder.
Next time you view 8k images, have a look at iStat readout and see if the GPU has any activity.

now i'm browsing in google 8k images and the gpu temperature remains more or less between 65 - 75 but the fans have started at a good rate .. shame not to have the opportunity to view gpu fan rpm to understand better

The only flaw is the thermal pads, some of which are broken.
I buy them, replace everything and put the thermal paste again
Temperatures the maximum peak 53 ° from the first test instead of 79 ° ...!
Impressive how dirt and poor thermal paste have a negative effect ..
