I have a MP4,1 flashed to 5,1, dual 5680s, 64gb ram, 500gb 850 Evo on pcie sata III card, 1tb storage drive, usb 3.0 pcie card. Mojave. I removed my GTX Titan and installed a reference RX 580 to regain acceleration. The 580 shows up as a 480 and there are no drivers installed. Image is crap and only has options for two low resolutions. I placed the 580 in a PC and confirmed it was a 580 and working properly. reinstalled in MP and same issue.
I am not sure what the issue is here, any suggestions? I am trying to avoid having to do a fresh OSX install. Would that actually fix this? Has anyone else heard or seen this problem? I was under the impression the card would just work. So frustrating, after this whole nvidia driver fiasco. Thank you in advance for any assistance.

You probably have one of the Dell Polaris 10 (Polaris 10 is a RX 480, Polaris 20 is a RX 580, Polaris 30 is a RX 590) that was sold with the RX 580 firmware. Other OEMs did this trick too and this confound macOS drivers.

You probably need to change to a more compatible with macOS GPU or modify the firmware of your GPU to a ID that works with macOS drivers. Some people here did that, use the search.

It is possible to fool the OSX into thinking that this is an RX-580 card I have done it, but it messes up the Windows driver signature verification. Personally I would rather get flawless functionality in OSX and Windows than "presenting" the card as RX-580 to OSX. I saw no benefit at all. No increase in performance. But if someone wants to try it there is a thread to change the part number in the vbios by manipulating it.

I think I am going to flash it with the Sapphire pulse vbios. I am an admitted Nvidia fanboy and have flashed several gtx 680s. I believe I can pull it off. I have Ati WinFlash and the vbios for the pulse as well as cpuz. And of course a backup of the orginal vbios. I had no idea I would run into this when I decided to switch cards. I was able to pick the 580 up for $100.00 so I thought it was a deal. If the flash works I still come out on top. Anyone see a problem with this flash? I do know they are different ports on the back. However, I could not find a vbios with the same ports that was not the same oem image as the dell vbios.

So, I have been searching for 3 days now. Can someone assist me with links to threads discussing rx 580 dell oem card and how to flash. I have tried to flash and I get adapter is not found. The card shows up in device manager. It shows up in the amd/atiflash app. I can not flash in the amd/ati flash app due to id mismatch. If I try flash from cmd using winflash or atiflash they both say no adapter found. Do i need to unlock the rom?

Again, I have tried searching the forums but do mot get results that get me to the answer I am looking for. Thank you for your continued assistance.

I do not need the card to work in Windows. I have house full of PCs. I want to get the card to function on the Mac Pro. OSX is where I am having problems. It will not load drivers for RX 480 or 580. I thought it would just work even if recognized as 480 it should use those drivers, correct? I would like the 580 performance, but can easily live with 480 performance if thats all I can get. I have a 580 pulse on the way, thought if I can get the dell card going I would put it in my 3,1.

Why did you flash it in the first place? Did you backup the original ROM? What is the part # of the card?

I did not flash. It is stock. I was considering flashing as a way to make it work.
[doublepost=1564787312][/doublepost]I bought the card used off facebook market place for 100. And found out from you that it was probably a dell oem. I confirmed this through gpu-z. I installed it in my Mac Pro and it was fuzzy and low res. In about this mac it showed up as a 480 I moved my card to a pc and it reads as a 580 and works fine. Windows auto detected and installed correct driver. It leaves me confused as to why it fuzzy and low res on the mac. I can only assume that since it reads as 480 thereis a problem and it is not using the built in driver.

Are you in El Capitan, Sierra, High Sierra or Mojave ?

Making a signature in your Macrumors profile would save us time having to read every post to see how your mac pro is set up. My "sig" is at the end of this post.

What is the p/n on the label? And the vbios? You can dump the vbios with GPU-Z or make a screenshot from the main GPU-Z screen.
