Hi,

I finally managed to get a working RX 580, see below. This is a Mac Flashed card recommended by Apple.

I gave it a quick test in Mojave, then booted OpenCore/Monterey. Once it had booted, I applied the root patches, saved and rebooted.

However, although it works it is running really sluggishly.

I look in System Report and noticed this:

Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded

Also, is says VRAM 7 GB and this is supposed to be a 8 GB Model?

Is this correct? I thought OpenCore used this?

Any ideas on why it's sluggish?

When I installed OC/Monterey on this system, I had a different graphics card installed if that makes a difference?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Dave

- Don't know if OC is cause of the problem. The general recommendation is boot into Mojave to see if the problem presists

- Do you have another machine or Windows installed on the Mac to check this graphics card?

When I had Sonoma w/ OC 1.4.3 installed and swapped from a GTX 680 to RX 580, it had black screen, not resolved by resetting NVRAM. I had to go back to a clean install of Mojave then reinstall the newer Mac OS version with OC, taking care to enable "AMD GOP Inject."*

*My MSI RX580 has original ROM (not flashed)

Ok, I'll boot into Mojave and check tommorow.

Yes, I was thinking that a fresh install of OC/Monterey is the next step.

This is the full History:

Got Mac Pro 5,1 with El Capitan installed.
I had a different RX 580 I later found out to be faulty, non Mac flashed (RX580PC).

Installed High Sierra and got ROM updates.
Installed Mojave and got ROM updates (with RX580PC).
Installed OC/Monterey from USB stick.
The RX580PC died, no video output. I took it to a shop that verified it was dead.
So I got another RX 580MAC "Bootscreen AMD Radeon RX 580 8 GB GDDR5 Graphics Upgrade for Apple Mac Pro 5,1"
I quickly booted Mojave with the RX580Mac installed. This appeared to work - didn't check it expect that I got a boot screen and the finder opened ok.
I the booted OC/Monterey, Applied the Root Patches and rebooted and that's where I am now.

From the above which step do you think I should start from? Reinstall Mojave or Monterey?

I think you need to determine where the problem is: whether it's this RX580MAC or something else. So checking it with a fresh install of Mojave would be a good place to start.

Are you using a 8-pin-to-dual mini 6-pin power adapter?

Hi All,

I tried installing Monterey again this time making sure to set the OCLP option to Inject AMD and it Worked!

I[m not sure whether it was in Inject option or just reinstalling with the card installed that did it but iy works!

Thanks a lot for your help and suggestions,,,,,

All the Best
