Hello, I'm suprised to know that we can upgrade our processor. (it's my dream)
I'm not really enjoyed with those new Mac Pro 2014 and I would to keep my old Mac Pro.
So here is my question.

Does this processor is compatible ?

BX80613W3680

it's a Mac Pro MacPro5,1 (mid-2010)

ty for your answers :)

tyvm !

So I guess I have only 1 processor.

I can't expect so to have 2 processors right ? ty

Finally I would to change to the
Intel Xeon W3690
http://ark.intel.com/fr/products/52...r-W3690-12M-Cache-3_46-GHz-6_40-GTs-Intel-QPI

Intel® Xeon® Processor W3690
(12M Cache, 3.46 GHz, 6.40 GT/s Intel® QPI)

It seem compatible too and faster right ?

Socket FCLGA1366

ty !

Yep the W3690 or W3680 as mentioned by Flowrider will work just fine. There are members here who have upgraded their CPUs to W3680 or W3690. There is an old thread here about members upgrading their Mac Pro CPUs. The prices have gone down and it's a good time to upgrade.

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1122551/

I know your thread topic inquiry is on CPU upgrades though you can still add other upgrades like a Sata 3 SSD blade or USB 3.0 card.

awesome sauce !
ok, I will order one in April.
I will just add another memory, 4GB, like that in total i will own 16GB
And the video card, the 680GTX.

The hard disc, idk, because I have a Velociraptor already.
WD VELOCIRAPTOR SATA III 6 GB/S - 500 GO - 64 MO

I will doing the upgrade and post my feedback here :)

ty everyone !

Just letting you know X5690 (X56xx) will also work even though they are made for dual processor machines. This gives you another option. I put one of these in my cMP

Neat.
I seen one like that
12 CORE Apple Mac Pro 5.1 Matched Pair Six Core 2.66GHz XEON X5650
But it's 2 processors, so how have you done ?

You need to only install 1 processor. The only difference is the extra I/O bus to communicate with another cpu.
It will NOT work the other way around though(e.g The W3690 will not work in a dual processor board)
Yours is a single processor board so X and W series CPUs will work.
Flowrider explained this in another thread - refer to post#10

W3690
Intel Xeon W3690 / 6x 3,46 GHz

your is only a

Intel Xeon W5590 / 4x 3,33 GHz

I would prefer to add those W3690 it seem faster.

Just get the W3690, and you´ll be fine. It´s a easy upgrade.

I think so :)

Just to clarify, I think you are getting confused.
Mine is a X5690 / 6core x 3.46ghz
Same as W3690 / 6core x3.46ghz

I am not sure where you got W5590 from,it's not mentioned in this thread anywhere? Anyhow good luck with your upgrade and go with the W3690.

yeah, sometimes google return bad result lol
ok I seen your processor, it seem the same. But on ebay, your is more expensive. So I will just choose that one W3690. But ty for your tips. It could be usefull, maybe one day, when the W3690 will be all gone :)

Hello. There is another member here, Flowrider who used a pair of W5590s on his 5,1 Mac Pro and worked just fine.
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1620885/

I think he later upgraded to a pair of x5677 and is selling his matched of W5590 at the marketplace.

as you can see, finally the 3690 is a little bit faster.

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare.php?cmp[]=1314&cmp[]=1275

:)

And the W5590 has a low score : 6369

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+W5590+@+3.33GHz&id=1277

The best choice is probably the 3690 finally. And I ordered it this week ! :)
