Mac Pro 5,1 with 7950 supports 4k @ 60hz?

So i have a mac pro 5,1 with a 7950 card i flashed myself & a up2414q but i can only get 4k 30hz since it's MST but i've heard you can get 4k 60hz using a SST monitor so i found that there is another version of this monitor without adobe rgb called the p2415q which uses SST so with this computer and card would i be able to get 4k 60hz with a p2415q?
 
Anyone? or am i just going to take a punt and just test it myself.

I have a Mac Pro 5.1 and an AMD Radeon 7950 video card. It works with 4K 60Hz with the Dell P2715Q and Samsung U28590D. To get 60Hz I had to use SwitchResX. The computer will not boot with either of the monitors in SST 60Hz mode. They either need to be turned off (or switched to MST) and then can be turned on when you get to the OS login screen.
 
For Samsung U28590D, it's SST, so it can work at 60hz just fine. It has two settings, HBR1 (aka Dp1.1) and HBR2 (aka dp1.2)

you need hbr2 to have 4k@60hz but no bootscreen in hbr2 mode.

in hbr1 mode you can has bootscreen in some low res (800x600 iirc)

ah, that doesn't sound too good having to wait till the computer turns on to get 4k 60hz and using switchres 3rd party program :/ hmmm i guess if it works for the p2715q is works for the p2415q though since they are essentially the same monitor just different size.

Appreciate the help guys, also thanks netkas your forums is a goldmine for the flashing tutorials.

I don't really like monitors above 24" for me 24" is perfect i scale the 4k to 2048 x 1152, i've tried 27" before but i prefer 24" i wonder how that u28590d works 4k 60hz without switchres and p2715q/p2415q doesn't? they are both sst so should work 4k 60hz theoretically without switchres.
 
No idea why. working great here with 2560 hidpi mode, really like that res and screen size. Great for games as well. And costed me about 400$

It can be made to work and it can be super nice. However, you should give some thought as to whether it's worth the hassles. A nice standard 27" IPS panel shouldn't be discounted. For photography the Samsung might be 4K, but is completely unacceptable for serious work (imho). The Dell is far better as it's an IPS panel although I still think it might be just a hair behind some of the better non-4K panels. It's good enough for me. If you need wide gamut then forget 4K in this price range for now. For general office work any of them will do.
