Hello to all,

I've been looking for long to an answer to this question but I've not found any post that is close to my problem. I recently decided to get rid of my good old Mac Pro from mid 2010 for a newer Mac Mini (I really needed more space in my small place), but in order to sell it I'd like to do a factory reset. So here's the problem : I upgraded this Mac to 10.14.6 with a Radeon RX 580 Sapphire. I can't erase the disk the easy way with recovery mode since with this gpu it doesn't show up. So I was wondering what would be the simplest way to wipe it clean ? I'm sure someone has come to this situation ?

Cheers

Seems your issue is that your GPU do not have pre-boot configuration support, no?

If your disk is empty, the Mac Pro firmware will boot from a createinstallmedia USB installer after not finding an internal disk to boot, even with a RX 580 without pre-boot configuration support.

Make a Mojave createinstallmedia USB installer, nuke your disk with your other Mac, put back the empty disk in the Mac Pro, make a clean install from scratch.

There is no Internet Recovery with MacPro5,1 and if you boot Recovery, you can't fully erase the main disk (it's booted from it).

If you need a boot screen, I have confirmed you can slap the old GT120 card in it and Mojave will still boot and run, just crappily.
