Unfortunately, the Pcie Switch diode on my MP 6.1 is too hot (95C) during operation. There is no error anyway….. Is this normal? Thanks!

I don't think I have seen that high temp in any of my 3 pcs tCMPs. Have you tried to clean it up?

Mine is 58ºC and I don't think I have seen it above 70ºC so you should look at Activity Monitor for an errant process. Your SSD temps look rather high as well.

Hi, This is nMP, not cMP. Mac Pro 6.1. All temperatures are normal, only this one diode is hot. Yes, it was cleaned.

While mine never exceeds 70°C since I placed it on a shelf and set a slightly more aggressive fan curve, I remember other reports of up to 85°C.
Below I linked an existing thread with a bit more information on the chip and a mod with an additional heatsink.
I'm no expert but 95°C (if actually accurate) seems excessive.
You could temporarily increase the idle fanspeed to see if that helps but I suspect a different cause.
Do you have anything unusual connected to the Mac?

FYI: Via iStat menus I set two fan rules:
- 20% (1000 rpm) if any sensor > 68°C
- 40% (1222 rpm) if any sensor > 80°C

Yes, 2x Cinema Display 30", There is nothing else. It's a constant 23C in my office......
It is interesting that the fan does not turn on by itself and there are no problems even during the benchmark test.
Yes, I read this post. It is also not specified here what is causing this problem.

Oh don't get confused by the fan values I stated from iStat (20% & 40%) as reference.
The fan DOES constantly run with a minimum of ~789 rpm and auto-regulates itself.

I would say 70 °C is normal on my 6,1 and 95 °C looks a bit too high, I would say.

Is dust inside? What CPU is in your 6,1? I'm not sure, but I remember that trashcans with lower CPU cores having a hotter PCIe Switch.

Disconnect one of the Displays and check temperature again.

You can also use the Thermal Test from the ASD 3S159 (Apple Service Diagnostic) found on https://www.macintoshrepository.org/

With a dust-free, disconnected display, it is 1-2 degrees cooler. I'll run Test when I get home. Thank you!

It is likely that the second Apple Cinema Display 30" is causing the heat. With one display, the temperature only goes up to 80 degrees. Is this possible?

You use two active mini-DisplayPort to Dual-Link-DVI adapters, right?
Do you have one or two different displays to test with a different connection type?

While I'm no expert at all and connected devices can indeed lead to increased temperatures of various internal components, 80°C still seem unusual high as well as an additional 15°C with the second display connected.
For comparison, the sub 70°C I mentioned for my machine are with a 5K display connected via Dual Displayport. (Basically two 2560x2880 displays).
But perhaps your D700s behave differently than my D300 machine and can't be compared.
