Hello there,
These days I work mostly as a motion graphic designer and I had
finished some complex projects using for the most part Apple motion.
I'm currently using Mac Pro 6.1 (cylinder) 6 cores \D500 \32gb ram.
From my understanding Apple motion is relaying heavily on GPU power for realtime play back.
Export time is actually fine - I work mostly on short sequences of around one minute.
But I do feel incredibly slowed down by the limited GPU power the Mac Pro 6.1 has to offer.
What I’m looking for is being able to experience the wonderful ability that apple motion has for realtime playback.
My current Mac Pro offers that, but not when I work on complex scenes.
As a result I’m looking on purchasing the Mac Pro 7.1.
The configuration I had in mind is :
12 core/ 96Gb memory / Radeon pro vega II/ 1tb ssd.
In light of the forecasted release of Mac Pro’s based on apple silicon, I’m trying to evaluate if it's the right time to buy the current generation of the Mac Pro.
What seems in favour is that it might take some time for apple to offer its own made GPU’s that can compete what AMD has to offer.
I was also considering getting a refurbished I Mac Pro ( if I can find one with the Radeon pro Vega 64 ) as a mid term solution for the next 2-3 years until Apple Silicon Mac Pro’s are out there.
Thank you for your feedback and advice!
