Hey Friends,

I recently installed a 28-core Xeon w-3275M QS from Ebay into my 7,1 Mac Pro. Seemed to go well, ran it HARD with Cinebench multiple times, Geekbench 5 is scoring 22,000+! I haven't seen it happen while working, but when I leave it running overnight, it is restarting because of a problem. I'm running Cinebench while I type, and the cpu has a a core max tempurature of 85C.

Is that too hot? Perhaps I used too much or too little thermal paste? Perhaps the CPU is faulty? Maybe there is another issue?

Thanks
Ryan

Ryan,

It would seem something might be awry!

I replaced my 8-core with a 28-core and its idling temp is around 41 degrees. I haven't tried high stress tests so can't comment there.

It doesn't seem to go much above low 50s most of the time when I'm doing video.

Pretty sure mine is a tray processor, not a QS.

Geekbench is just below 20K. Temp went to 52 during the test.

Cinebench R23 brought the temp up to 59. It went back to 44 right afterwards and gave a score of 24K+.

Hope this helps,

Tom
