First here are my specs

* Processor Two 2.26GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon Nehlam
* Memory 12GB (6X2GB)
* Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB
* Hard Drive Bay1 1TB 7200-rpm Serial ATA 3Gb/s
* Plus 3 extra 1TB hard drives 2 striped 1 dedicated to windows

I've had my computer for about 2-3 years and in the last year it has slowly gotten slower and slower. I wasn't around for most of the summer but my girlfriend complained about browser freezing and finder crashing.

When I came home, I found my computer would only work with a specific external hard drive attached. When I detached the hard drive the whole machine would turn off and a loud clicking noise could be heard. Once the drive was reattached the computer would boot up fine.

I tried reloading the OS, but that didn't work. Neither did zapping my pram. I eventually turned off the machine and now it won't boot up at all. I turn it on and I get the grey screen with the apple. The loading circle appears and after a few rotations my kernel crashes every time. I have no clue whats going on.

I have a sneaking suspicion girlfriend left my computer on all summer in the heat and fried the Ram. I want to get more Ram and hope that's the problem but I'm at a loss and I'm trying to prevent a huge repair bill.

SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!

Your girlfriend broke it! Time to get a new girlfriend :)

J/k, it sounds like your hard drive died, buy a new one and replace the internal drive with the new one, reinstall the operating system, and all will be well again.
