hey up,
i wonder if any of you guys could give me some advice on what Mac would be suitable for my situation.
i have been using a powerbook g4 1.5 for about 3 years(now sold) and was considering either a new :

24"imac with the 256mb upgrade,and 2gb memory.
mac pro 2.6,x1900,and 1gb with the 23"HDCD.
or i could possibly hold out for a new c2d macbook pro.

i have just started studying logic pro 7 and will also be learning shake 4 and final cut pro .

any advice would be great!

I honestly think that if you buy a Mac Pro you will not be disappointed. The fact that you can add drives internally as well as better video cards , better sound cards in the near future and upgraded monitors are a major benefit. This is not to say that the 24" iMac is a bad machine because it certainly is not a bad machine. But I firmly believe if you buy the best that you can now you will not have any room for regrets later.

It does not appear that you are doing anything graphics intensive so even the 7300GT is a good option for you. UNLESS you are thinking of gaming or doing graphics work.

if you have the money, then i say go for it. its a better video card, and i think you'll be even happier with it, if money isn't a problem.

but you probably don't need it unless you are gonna play games
