Hi, I've recently got a refurbished Mac Pro from Apple, and once I'd set my system up and tried to connect to the internet, I soon learnt that there was no Airport Card installed, so I'm unable to get a wireless internet connection.

Having looked in the Apple Store online, I can't see any internal cards, just base stations. I looked up the Airport Extreme Card, which I thought would solve my problem, but from what I could see that is only compatible with older Macs.

Can anyone suggest any solutions?

Any help is gratefully appreciated.

Thanks,
Simon

You need to go get it installed by a Apple Store as its not considered a user-installable-option (This is why Im thankful it was included in my 2010) - probably isnt that expensive to get it installed.

IF you are a do-it-yourselfer, you can get the part for about $55-$60 retail or $40 on Ebay and install it yourself. There is a thread here including pictures from others who have done it. The part is called an "Airport Extreme Card".

I would look for that other thread and check it out, unless you just want it done at the Apple Store.

I've replaced an airport extreme card on a MacBook Pro. Even on a laptop it wasn't that hard, and I bet it's much easier on a Mac Pro.

I would rather spend the money to run a cable over to the computer. Hardline is much better than wireless if you can swing it.

I've put two Airport Cards into my refurbished Mac Pros. It's a little bit of a PITA to get to them, and I'd call it a slightly more difficult procedure than installing a new Graphics card, but if you have any familiarity with the inside of a computer, it's not a big deal. If I remember right, the one for my 2008 Pro cost around $50 and I did it at the same time as I was installing new memory and hard drives.

If I remember right, the Mac Store was going to charge me around $80 to install it, but they wanted to keep the machine for three days. The time factor was the reason I did it myself.

You don't say which model you bought, or I'd give you a link to the right card, but search for the threads here. That's how I learned where to get them and how to do it.
