I have a new mac pro and when I try to print to my hp color laserjet 2550ln,
I need to restart the printer each time, or reboot my computer. I have tried to upgrade the software for printer, but this is not necessary. Help!!

You might have better luck posting in a different section of the forum. This section is dedicated to Mac Pro specific issues. It sounds like you have an accessory or OS X problem.

What OS version.

My 2840 worked fine until 10.6.5. I spent 8-10 hours trying lots of different things before I got the damn thing running again.

I had a number of postscript error (job is too complex). I ended up buying more RAM for the printer ($500 from HP, $29 from a google search). Not sure if it was required in the end, but it didn't hurt.

Ignore the HP website information about how everything is already built into 10.6.5. I downloaded the "old" software and re-installed it and then reconfigured the printer and finally got it to work.

For future reference, people should be very careful doing this. I've had the old software totally break 10.6.X HP printing with no fix.

I had an identical problem with a different hp laser. Stumped me for ages. Then I looked at the printer driver under the printer section on OSX. It gave me the option of the one for my specific printer or a generic one. Changed it from the specific one suggested to the generic one. It now works fine. The only slight issue is the picture osx uses is now no longer the correct one, but I can live with that. I never went near the hp software.
