Mac Pro Boot when it sees Power

Hello all

I am working at a recording studio at the moment where the computer (an intel mac pro Xeon) is stored under the floor to prevent fan noise in the control room.

We unfortunately suffered a power cut the other day and it was a real pain to turn the computer back on.

What I want to know is if there is a way for the mac to boot automatically as soon as it sees power?

If this is not the case then does anyone else have a solution for booting remotely?

System Preferences -> Energy Saver -> Start up automatically after a power failure.

This will only kick in if the power is cut while the machine is turned on. It will not boot the machine back up if you turned it off beforehand.

To boot remotely, simply open the Mac Pro and extend the wires of the power switch. I couldn't find a pinout for the front-panel connector right now, but you should be able to find out which cable it is.

Just make sure you wire a momentary switch to it.

If you put a relay on the extended switch just mentioned, you'll also be able to boot it even when completely off from anywhere by SMS using an Arduino. That'd be cool.

Ugh, hardware hacking is so ugly, especially on a nice box like the Mac Pro.

The MP does also support Wake On LAN. If the system has juice (but is not turned on) and WOL was enabled in System Preferences at one point in time, it's trivial to send the tower a magic packet- either from another computer, an iPhone or iPad (there are apps out there that do it) or maybe even an Arduino with an ethernet shield if you're a hardware hacker.
