What is the fastest CPU for a MacPro1,1 and how does it stand up to the current generation?

(also, will I need to buy 2 processors?)

Using the search function I've found that a pair of Xeon X5365's is the best what you can put into a 1,1 Mac Pro. Go here and have a read.
A dual-processor can be upgraded to a single faster processor or to a pair of them. You can not mix processors.

Thanks, but I didn't see where it said it was for a MacPro1,1. (Mine has 2 x 2 GHz Dual-Core Xeon.)

Also, how does the upgrade compare to the new Mac Pros?

2006 Mac Pro = MacPro1,1. And hwojtek is also right in the rest of what he says in his post.
