Hi,
I'm curious as to which E5-26xx v2 CPU upgrades are possible in the Mac Pro 6,1. Is every non ES cpu supported? For example, the E5-2696 v2 has the same CPUID as the E5-2697 v2, but I have not seen any reports of anyone trying this CPU.

Yes several people have done the E5-2697 v2 now.

My personal preference would be to avoid an Engineering Sample, but other than that you are good to go.

Okay great, I haven't seen any reports of the 2696 v2–– as long as it's not an engineering sample, is it safe to assume it would work?

Oh sorry, I misread the point of your post. Several people have done the 2697. I haven't seen 2696 either.

I don't know if this is good enough verification, but there are several Mac Pro 6,1s on Geekbench reporting they have 2696 installed:

However, it is possible to spoof your computer on Geekbench, so it's possible that every single one of these is a Hackintosh whose owner has spoofed them to report as MP6,1.
