This is my system's specs:

2013 Mac Pro 3.5GHz 6 core CPU, 32GB Ram, D700 GPUs

This is the the 3rd time it crashed on me in a row while trying to export a 12minute R3D Helium 8K edit.

Is there anyone out there who is a little more savvy than me that can decipher what is going on?

Is the footage just too beefy for my system?

Here is the crash report:

My guess is this:
net.telestream.driver.TelestreamAudio 1.1.1

Try uninstalling the Telestream software or unloading its KEXT and then doing your export again.

What FCP X are you on? AFAIK it does not support 8K Helium footage natively yet.

Also, is your RED support package (the Apple workflow installer on their website under downloads) up to date?

With Helium footage we usually make prores proxies in REDCINE and then use those for FCP X. We only go back to the RAW during Resolve roundtrips.

Your hardware is fine, our nMP is just like yours except it has a D500 and handles RED footage fine

First off, thank you for replying and helping me trouble shoot this!

I do have the latest RED support package installed. And FCPX does support the 8K natively (I can play it back fine without any dropped frames if there aren't any effects applied.)

My workflow goes like this:

1. Import into FCPX, transcode to proxy within FCPX.

2. Assemble the edit.

3. Reconnect to original media.

4. Export

I stay within FCPX for the entire workflow, including the color grade.

The machine runs smoothly the entire time. It is only when I try to export with the Neat Video denoiser applied that it crashes (it crashes several hours into the export).

I was able to export the entire edit successfully without the denoiser applied.

However, since posting the original thread, I went into the settings for the Neat video plug in and adjusted how it uses the hardware to render (it was set to CPU only). I now have it set to use half of the available CPU cores in combination with 70% of both gpu's and I'm already seeing a performance improvement.

Before the Activity Monitor was showing 100% CPU usage (95% User, 5% system) during the export. With these new settings it's showing 25% User, and 9% system with over 60% idle.

So I think I narrowed it down to the neat video plug in. The progress bar shows that it is 30% into this export, let's see if it completes it without shutting down.

Thanks for your reply.

I don't think it's the Telestream driver because the crashes only happen when exporting THIS particular project within FCPX. (Doesn't happen with others)

I think I narrowed it down to a specific plug in I was using. I adjusted the settings on it and now I'm attempting a new export.

I will update once it finishes.

Yeah, make sure to benchmark Neatvideo with its built in tool and let it use what it likes the most. It's a very picky plugin and it's incredibly resource intensive. AFAIK there is no computer (outside of a cluster) that can run it fluidly on RAW footage let alone 8k... I used to have issues with it but fixed them when one of their engineers told me to keep the CUDA plugin (in system preferences) updated constantly and also make sure neatvideo is updated to the latest version that your license allows.
