Well, you found the MacPro section of this forum ... are you saying you can't decipher this on your own? The current MacPro is "dead" as far as I can tell. Will it be updated? Who knows but there was something said about an update coming in 2013. Whether it will appease us MacPro users and future customers, I don't know.

No, no one on a rumor site has any legitimate info regarding this. Speculation is later this year, maybe some news coming out of WWDC.

But you should really just ask yourself... Do you need a new machine now? Can you wait another 4-6 months?

If the answers are no/yes, and you'd prefer a Mac Pro then just wait it out a little while. If you answer yes/no then there's no point in waiting. Boxx makes some quality machines.

I'm happy with my 2006 Mac Pro, although it's my first Mac Pro and I've had it almost two weeks. I think I can wait it out. :)

OP, I agree with the last post. If you can wait, wait.

The rumor machine suggests that a new Mac Pro should be announced at WWDC which is right around the corner, I believe its starts on June 10th.

If you can hold out a few more weeks it may payoff for you. If there is no new Mac Pro announced then go for the Boxx.

What? Why would you say that? A product is dead when it is no longer a) sold new and/or b) supported by the manufacturer. "The current MacPro" is both so not dead, no.

You can say the specs are old if ya like. :p

As long as people still use Mac Pros regardless which model, I'd like to think the Mac Pro is still alive and kicking

I also think it's kind of a funny question to ask. Any PC you buy could be discontinued tomorrow too. Such is life. Buy what you need. Why does it matter if they're still selling it tomorrow?

more like i dont care enough to spend time to see if anyone knows real info about whether Apple is going to use actually powerful hardware in the allegedly incoming Mac Pro.

if they continue their refusal to use high end graphics, i'm going to begin phasing out my apple software. that's all of why i'm asking.

If you need something now, and they make it now, and you can afford it now, then buy it now.

I bought a brand new, "Not Dead", Mac Pro about 2 months ago. It's light years ahead of my last "PC" (Linux, not windows). I WANTED to upgrade now, and I knew that a newer model would probably be a few months away. It really doesn't matter, because a newer, more powerful system is ALWAYS a few months away. No matter what you buy, no matter what the platform. Newer, Faster, Better hardware is ALWAYS just a few months away. That's not to say that a new system package will come every few months, but newer tech. will. You will always want the newer tech.

If you want it now, you know what to do, you don't need everyone's opinion and validation on how to spend you money. :)

As long as the current Mac Pro is adequate for my needs I'm good with that. There are still other options to upgrade like ssd, accelator and graphic cards. And the current hardware is generally stable and durable.

Doesn't NVidia at least ship Mac drivers now for their higher end cards?

Just depends on what you do with it. I edit 720p video for my wifes Udemy course and my 4,1 does great. The 1,1's are still decent machines for sure, lots of folks use them here. :)

I thought the drivers came via Apple software updates, could be wrong, actually I'd like someone to answer that question. Do they actually have a spot for Mac drivers?? I didn't think they did on their site.

There are two brand spankin' new graphics card options...er...well....new for the Mac world :)

About to pull the trigger on going 100% over to boxxtech. Any news to advise?

Hey OP, from your sig you already have the machine? How much did that cost you? Looks like from their site you spent well over $10k on the 16 core model!! What do you do out of curiosity?

Hi cgk.emu I am guessing the thread starfer bought a Boxx workstation. Does not seem like a Mac Pro. I could be wrong though.

Yeah, look at his sig. This f course makes me think he already had it when posted this. Which in turn makes me thing he's just trolling. Like you, I could be wrong tho. ;)

What rumor machine? If referring to the annual Mac Pro @ WWDC ( for last 4 years ) that is a broken clock rumor. It happened to be right last year just because a broken analog clock is right twice a day.

Unless Apple is dumping the Xeon E5 class solutions are the central core of the Mac Pro WWDC is one of the few times during 2013 when there is a high probability of there will be a no announcement. Frankly, I think there are lots of folks being set up for disappointment.

Apple may dump Xeon E5 solutions and still claim it is still a Mac Pro. It wouldn't be the first blunder in Mac Pro product management overt the last year and half. There may be something besides a Mac Pro announced at WWDC (i.e., a new product name and/or variant), but the natural evolutionary upgrade? Not likely.

If you can hold out a few more weeks it may payoff for you. If there is no new Mac Pro announced then go for the Boxx.

If Apple is keeping Xeon E5 solutions at the core of the Mac Pro then it is closer to a several more months window. That's for the same reason that a new MBA or MBP was extremely unlikely for April-May 2013 ; why move when Intel is about to make a transition.

Those that have workload transition needs then those should drive decision.

the boxx 89 in my sig is a company-owned workstation that I do AE compositions on, but i'm currently working less with that group hence i'm considering buying my own 4000-level boxx workstation... i'm not about to spend like, whatever it is for the 89, $14k or something, on the boxx i'm looking at haha

answered that in another reply. it's a machine that i've had the opportunity to use as often as I have needed, but won't have that kind of access to anymore. for a short while it was basically the only thing I used. i'm really only interested in mac pro because i have been using macs since 2000 and the consistency of the file system is amazing... but obviously if i can't get enough cutting edge and stability out of the "new" machine, I won't be getting it when I can just invest in a boxx

know anything about the actual running stability? i have to ask here because the damn apple "support" folks over the phone can't even get a model identifier (#,#) right...

Possibly mentioned but probably not announced.

These are the NVidia drivers. Apple isn't going to keep track of what cards work and what don't with NVidia's drivers.

There is a Mac packaged Quadro K5000 (that is available from the Apple store and other retailers.) I don't see any reports on the K6000, but I know Titan works, and the K6000 is based on Titan. Someone else might know for sure.

It's ALIVE!!!!

:D

Yeah, and Boxx isn't the only game in town either. There's also Dell and HP just to name the two most popular. There are several Workstation venders out there. Boxx is pretty OK-ish IMO. A little over-priced tho. Their sales support staff and sales support system sure is nice! Gotta give'm that!
