I have a mac pro desktop that has recently stopped working. I can turn it on, the white apple logo will appear, it will begin loading the OS, but when the loading is complete and I should see the login screen, the screen just goes black. I have tried everything;

- swap out memory with known working sticks
- PRAM reset
- SMC reset
- Graphics card swap
- Pulled all hard drives
- tried loading boot disk (load then blank screen)
- etc etc

If there is no boot drive, the usual question mark folder will appear, I can boot in verbose, but no errors or warnings appear, i can boot into single user mode, and browse directories, but no OS will load!

Anyone seen this before? and can possibly help?

do you have another mac? if you do. put your macpro into target disk mode and connect it to another mac and run disk utilities or use the cd's. see if that helps.

You've tried everything I can think of. At this point I'd take it in. Maybe bad power supply, CPU, or main board.

I swapped the cpu's and psu as well, my guess is also the main board. it might be worth replacing, but its a 1,1 so its pretty old.

Have you tried screen sharing? If you don't have that, push the volume buttons and see if they "pop". That would narrow it down to your gfx card.

I am also facing the same problem when I try to install MacOS x 10.6.6i on my Dell laptop. On booting, first apple logo appears and screen goes to black...

Any solution on this yet :( ?
