Hi. I have a early 2008 mac pro with a display problem. I switch it on the machine makes the Dong noise. The monitor then goes into sleep mode. The mac then sounds like its loading and then restarts. As it restarts the monitor comes on briefly but still black. it then does this on a loop. Any suggestions

Thanks Gareth

Possibility that it's the video card. Find a spare somewhere and swap them. If you are near an Apple store, bring it in. If not, look for authorized repair.

The stock 2600 - assuming that's what you have - isn't known for long term reliability.

Ive read a few times on some PC boards that a PSU issue could cause this though that card does not have an auxillery supply so can't imagine the PSU is being taxed.

Also found this at apple.
