I run an Mac Pro Early 2009, it suits my purpose and now feel ineed of maybe a new monitor, the Apple one I use is getting passed its use by date, dirt in the panel, screen burn and some missing pixels.

The machine is used for general computing and games playing and running a Nividia GeForce GTX680.

Any suggestions on a new monitor for this machine.

I have the same Mac Pro and vid card. I recently bought a Dell P2715Q and am very pleased with it. Best thing I could've done for my 58 year old eyes.
(the GTX680 provides 4K at 60Hz via it's display port)

This looks like a good buy, I have maybe a silly question not having used a non Apple display before but can I still connect my mouse via the monitor ?

The Dell has a USB 3 hub built in, so yes. You will need to run a separate USB cable to the monitor, though.

It really is a nice display. Gaming really came alive for me on the P2715Q.
Play around with the resolutions to find the one that feels right for you. I ended up with 2560x1440. I think most people use a little higher resolution, like 3200x1800, but my eyes just ain't what they used to be.

Your 58 year old eyes are not that bad if you are using that resolution, I have mine on best for display at the moment, but then my eyes are older that yours :)

What's wrong with 60Hz? That match pretty well for normal human eye's refresh rate (between 59-60FPS).

The human eye can see far beyond 60hz.

One of many links:

This one is interesting:

Just move a mouse around on a 120Hz monitor and then on a 60Hz monitor. The 60Hz will seem "flashy" and the 120Hz will seem like butter. Just image what that would do for games.

With how fast screen tech is moving today, I would not recommend a 60Hz screen. That's becoming old school, just like 1080p is old school for PC resolution.
