Mac Pro (Early 2009) start up noise fans

Hey all,

For a few days, the fan of my Mac Pro make an alarming sound during start up. I have no idea what's causing it, and can't find much info about it online...

Anybody here has an idea what might be the problem?

Try a SMC reset first.

Wow, what a racket!

Does the noise go away once it's fully booted? If it does, you could download macsfancontrol, and manually set the fans to max to see if it only happens on full fans.

Sounds like one of the fans bearings have given up the ghost.

But try the SMC reset like h98 says first.
