I’m thinking about getting a very basic Mac Pro just for the sake of tinkering with a classic. Will it be worthwhile or a waste of time and resources to build a system just for basic day-to-day computing (web browsing, word processing, YouTube, etc.). I’m a moderately experienced Mac tinkerer. I’ve upgraded Mac Minis, iMacs and MacBooks with mild success and would welcome the challenge of upgrading a cMP. I would appreciate any advice or recommendations. Thanks.

Not sure what you'd be able to tinker with on a MacPro6,1. That's the trashcan one, isn't it?

They're all getting old, and power consumption/heat output is astronomical compared to newer computers. Due to their age, performance is also lagging by comparison to a more modern CPU. My personal opinion is that it makes no sense to use a cMP as a day to day computer for most people.
