Hey guys, I have just acquired a Mac Pro 2008 model which I believe has a Radeon HD 2600 XT inside it. The problem is that it will power on but then shows nothing on the display. My first bet is that the GPU has died or the ports on the GPU have died (tried with other monitors and will try with another cable). I found out that these three cards are compatible.
- Radeon HD 2600 XT
- GeForce 8800 GT
- Quadro FX 5600
I have found the first card on ebay for £22.95 however it came out of a Dell machine. The cheapest ad on ebay I saw which specifically stated it was for the Mac Pro was £62.80. They appear to be identical in appearance other than the Dell one looking a big smaller. Would ANY of these graphics cards work or did Apple have anything custom done with them that would make the others not compatible?
Apologies if this is a silly question but I am not very familiar with Macs in terms of whether they use standard parts etc.
