Hello All,
This is my first post, so please excuse me if I ramble.
I just got my new MacPro, - 6 core 512 D700s. When I first plugged it in and began to do all filling in and registering stuff, the phone rang. I went to the other room to answer it. I heard a strange noise, at first I thought it was a gardener with a leaf blower, I walked back into the studio and it was the MACPRO. The fan was so noisy and loud it was like sitting next to Air Force One. I also noticed it was getting quite warm, almost hot. Imagine holding a cup of hot coffee without the handle, it was hot to the touch.
I turned it off and called the vendor not an Apple store. They said it was probably running a Self Check ?, and would be OK. I turned it back on and it seem to be all right, no noise, not hot, but still quite warm.
A few days later I noticed it was once again getting hotter than I thought it should. I called again and they said to bring it in. After I got there they said it was indeed too hot and that was after a 20 min. car ride.
I spent the next few days driving around to a few Apple stores and touched their MacPros everyone must of thought I had some weird thing going on all of the Macs everywhere were very cool, not warn at all, and they run all day.
They called back and said it was fixed, their prognosis was the Ram wasnt seated properly and caused it to overheat ?????.
I am not a techie at all. I have no point of reference on how warm is Too Warm It is now again running warm.
I have a widget iStat that gives temperature readings, but I dont know if they are normal or not.
I called Apple care and told them the whole story, and they listened and said it didnt seem to be a problem, and were a little dismissive about it.
Yesterday I turned it on and did nothing, no Internet, no e-mail, no Photoshop. It just sat there. The readings went from 81 to 126 degrees back down to 95, back up to 112, down to 90 , back up to 16 again. With no load at all, just the OS running. This went on all day long those are the readings attached.
Am I being an alarmist ?, is there a problem ?, should I be concerned ?
I cant find anywhere or anyone who can tell me the acceptable operating temp range. I know it all depends on load and usage and a lot of variables. But there must be something.
Thanks for any opinions and advise.
