I just got a great deal on a Mac Pro and want to use my Dell 3007 WF-PHC 30" monitor. The Mac only has an HDMI port so I tried a Dual Link DVI-D to HDMI cable and still cannot get better than 1280x800 resolution. I would welcome any recommendations so that I can get the intended resolution out of the monitor (and I do not feel like I'm in preschool). :)

The easiest, least expensive option is to get a mini Displayport to Displayport cable.

The problem is that these are the available ports on the Mac (i.e. there is no displayport):
  • 4 USB 3
  • 6 Thunderbolt 2
  • Dual Gigabit Ethernet
  • HDMI 1.4 Ultra HD

You will need a Dual-Link DVI to Mini Display Port Adapter from Apple. I've run two of them in the past from a 4,1 EFI 7950 with Apple's adapters.

Btw.. the model is the 3007wfp-hc

Actually, I’m mistaken. The 3007WFP doesn’t have a DisplayPort connection. You do need an active mini DisplayPort to dual-link DVI adapter with that display. Apple used to sell these but they’ve been discontinued.
