Mac Pro (Late 2013) Pink Startup Screen Since macOS Sierra Update

Hello!

I have a Late 2013 nMP bought in early 2014 which originally came with OS X 10.9 Mavericks but was upgraded to OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

I've recently upgraded to macOS Sierra and am experiencing some strange behaviour on startup where the screen has turned bright purple until I get to the login screen where it goes back to normal.

The nMP is connected via HDMI to HDMI to an Asus 27" 1080p external monitor. I have tried PRAM and SMC resets using different cables, ports, monitors and adapters. I have also run the Apple Diagnostics test and it has resulted in 'no issues found'.

Does anyone else have this issue or have an idea what it could be?

May be Apple trying to introduce the rose gold boot screen, but just not quite there yet :D

Anyway, Sierra now load the GPU driver at the beginning of the loading screen. So, it's possible driver issue (if that happen right after the OS upgrade).

I don't have the issue you have but I do have missing text for the log in names since upgrading to Sierra.

For me the issue is on the Iris HD 4000. I also get pixelated graphics at some points. Take a look at the menu bar in this pic.

Yes it started during the macOS Sierra upgrade and has continued since then. I've been in touch with Apple Support who suggested for me to reinstall the OS over itself from the recovery menu. Unfortunately that didn't help and neither has a full factory restore (internet recovery reverting back to OS X 10.9.5 Mavericks). I was chatting to a senior advisor who informed me that it is a known issue and engineers are working on a fix in the 10.12.2 update.

I've read a couple of threads on here with people having trouble with connecting to external monitors, correct display resolutions and start up graphics errors since upgrading to macOS Sierra.

Well the good news is that they are aware of the issue and an update is coming.

Stories like this reaffirm my decision to wait ~6 months before updating the OS.

Is this a "Hack Pro"? There is no Mac Pro with an HD4000 GPU.

Do you have a Thunderbolt Display? Apparently the issue is not present when connecting from TB to TB.

I'm not saying that this is a fix, just another troubleshooting step to isolate the issue.

Has anyone with this issue managed to find a solution?
 
I know this is an issue and a bug, but I really do wish that Apple would change the boot screen from the standard black background to something more prettier, you know... for the spinner drives that don't boot in 4 seconds :)
 
Upgraded to macOS Sierra 10.12.2 earlier this evening and the startup screen is still pink/purple. Anyone had any luck?
 
Quick Update...

I dropped off my Mac Pro and had it assessed by Stormfront over here in London UK. Oddly, they were unable to reproduce the issue and said that my Mac Pro is booting up completely normally. I collected it almost 2 weeks later and the pink startup screen is still there!

I've also updated to macOS Sierra 10.12.3 last night and unfortunately that didn't fix the problem either.

I decided to contact Apple Support again this morning. They apologised and advised me to take my Mac Pro to my local Apple Retail Store, assuring me that they will be able to take care of it. They don't have any appointments any time soon that are suitable for me so I'll have to keep checking back.

Any advice?

My boot / startup screen is grey and actually i like the black boot screen, is there any way to change it from grey to black?
 
I started getting the pink startup screen a couple of weeks ago and I'm still on El Cap. 6 core, dual D500's, 32GB RAM.
 
I have the same Mac Pro as you 4God but with 16GB RAM. I hope Apple will identify this issue and fix it with an update.

A lot of people started getting this problem when updating to macOS Sierra but it's obviously also happening with previous versions of OS X.
 
Just wondering if this could be a firmware issue? I understand that firmware and smc updates are now distributed through the Mac App Store updates.

Did anyone by any chance notice if the firmware was updated when upgrading to macOS Sierra?

Below is a link to the latest/last firmware for the Mac Pro available from the Apple website. When I checked my firmware version it seems that it has been updated beyond this version. Whether or not the firmware was updated during the macOS Sierra installation, I'm not sure?!?

I was reading this thread earlier and the issue has been addressed and fixed in the latest update.

I updated to the latest 10.12.4 Public Beta 6 and the pink startup screen is no longer present and I have the regular black boot screen! I thought I would share it with you guys, hoping that you would have the same luck, I'm so happy as I was really worried that my Mac Pro was developing a hardware fault.
