MP 1,1-5,1 Mac Pro Mid-2012 black screen boot up

I upgraded my Mac Pro Mid-2012 so I can upgrade to High Sierra, however, the Mac Pro boots a black screen before booting into MacOS. Anyone know how I can fix this? The graphics card I am using is a Radeon RX 580 8GB.

Because the Radeon RX 580 is not Apple-flashed (doesn't have the "proper" firmware), so you will not see a boot screen. To access the boot menu, etc., you'll need to stick in the original GPU.

And also, an RX 580 is not necessary to run High Sierra. You can run that in the stock configuration. Unless you NEED the RX 580 for something (gaming, video editing, etc.), but it is not necessary to boot HS.

I actually need the boot screen now, but no longer have the original graphics card. Can you (or anyone else) recommend a different graphics card so I can access the boot screen?

Yes, of course. I am trying to upgrade my OS from High Sierra to Monterey via this method -

You have to first upgrade to 144.0.0.0.0 BootROM firmware, before trying any unsupported macOS releases.

Please fully read this first post, you will probably find that you have one or more problems described into the various notes below. Mojave will only install if you have upgraded your BootROM to the current release and your Mac Pro have a Metal capable GPU*. If you are trying to install Mojave...

I'm currently stuck.

No time to watch the video, but you can use the MyBootMgr process linked in my signature to set OpenCore up and upgrade Mac OS as you want. It will set RefindPlus and OpenCore up to give you an equivalent boot screen with your RX 580 as is.

MyBootMgr will actually set things up to work with or without the BootROM upgrade suggested above, but better to get that done before moving on to Mac OS upgrades.
