The last few days my 2009 Mac Pro is not really wanting to go to sleep and the fan is pretty noisy (it sounds like the noisiest one is the GTX 680 fan, but it's hard to tell if that's gotten any louder or if that specific one was always that loud).

I assume it is refusing to go to sleep because something is getting too hot and it doesn't want to stop the fans. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong here.

What is the best way to diagnose what is causing this? I assume using a monitor of some kind will tell me what components are getting hot and look at addressing this? One of the RAM heat sinks does seem pretty toasty, but I don't know if that's normal.

If you didn't change any hardware but suddenly happen. Then go to Console and check if there is any log about it.

I am not really sure how to interpret the logs, but there are a lot of entries that look like

I also just tried putting it to sleep and it woke up again, and here are all the lines that were generated in that period of time:

I also installed iStat and here are the temperature readings. This is basically at idle (Chrome is all that's running).
[doublepost=1505206020][/doublepost]Ok, I have figured out that the waking up is strangely a result of one of my peripherals (a Korg Nanopad2 controller device). I'm not sure why this is all of a sudden causing a problem - I usually leave it plugged in and it's never done this before, but when I unplug that, the computer goes to sleep as it should, and it won't go to sleep with that plugged in...

Strangely, the computer itself also seems quieter when it wakes up, as though the fans aren't cranking as hard as they were. I have no idea why this device would cause the fans to work harder as it doesn't really DO anything except transmit MIDI data...

Ok, now it's doing it again even without that particular peripheral plugged in..... damn.

"Wake Reason EHC1" means a USB or Bluetooth device is waking it up. You'll have to work through them to see which one is doing it.

Thanks, yeah at this point I think the sleeping and the noisiness are two separate issues.

What do you think of the temp readings I posted? Do they look normal to you? It doesn't look like there are readings for the GPU unfortunately. I think that is the fan that is really getting louder but, again, it's hard to say.

My first port of call when wakeup weirdness occurs - disable Bluetooth device wake from sleep, and check there's nothing in the print queue.
