Mac Pro has a single 2.8Ghz processor. When I installed a couple 3.2Ghz Xeon X5482 processors computer wouldn't start up. Just normal fan noise, but nothing on the screen after 10 minutes.

Reinstalled the 2.8 processor everything works fine.

What in tarnation am I doing wrong?
Do I have to reset the logic board or something?

Any ideas?

Dan

Do your X5482 processors have SLANZ or SLBBG stepping? Only the former will work in the Mac Pro.

Yep! They are the SLBBG. When ordering them I thought an x5482 was an X5482, and they would work in anything with a LGA771 socket.

Kind of confusing when someone is trying to sell them with both abbreviations.

Guess I'll have to try and sell these, get most of my money back and make sure I buy the correct ones.

Where did you discover they wouldn't work? Is this something everyone knows.......except me?

Didn't lookup what the two acronyms mean.

There's a sticky at the top of this forum about processor upgrades that you might find helpful.

Okay, NOW I see. Thanks! I'll start hunting for the correct processors.
