Looks like it’s only the base model. Was hoping to see a 16 core option.

I'm not aware they've ever carried anything other than the base configurations, at least new stock. I do know they can order any configuration you'd like but I wasn't sure what benefit that was over just ordering directly from Apple.

I'm hoping we'll see a discount on the base configuration similar to what we saw with the iMac Pro. If there is one I may pick one up.

Unfortunately there's no discount at this time. But I suspect it's only a matter of time.

Looked at several different store's inventory and none have more than one in stock. A few zeros and some don't even have a listing (i.e., Houston). Even the one model they do have they aren't stocking any significant number. If sell the one than probably get a replacement shipped out eventually.

Have to dig, but at bestbuy's website also. All custom order so probably no chance will be on display in a store.

B&H photo the base model with 1TB is marked as the #1 seller and is in stock.

But check of several Apple stores shows nothing in stock there either. ( Apple Palo Alto and Chicago Michigan Ave & Lincoln Park says one Feb 28 . LA , Houston , NYC all one store at end of month. ).

I don't expect Micro Center to carry many but I think it's a little too early to know what they're going to do. Maybe I should stop by and speak to them about it.

It’s $500 off at B&H.

$500 of primarily the configurations they have in stock. ( kind of the opposite of burning a hole in their pocket. would probably like to unload them. ) . [ The #1 seller looks to be out at the moment but they still have the discount on it. ]

Actually I noticed they have the base model $600 off if you use the link from this article. And one of the higher configs is $1000 off.

I could probably help someone out with my discount If anyone needs.
That's most likely against the terms of your military discount - you could lose it completely.

Apple allows limited friends and family discounts for employees, but advertising on a forum read by Apple that you'll use your military discount for others is probably not a wise thing to do. (And Apple keeps track of the serial numbers, so if anyone needs AppleCare it might be "game over".)

Veterans and Military pricing is available to
  • Current and Veteran members of the US Military, National Guard and Reserve
  • Immediate family members who reside in the same household

So, you can buy things for your husband and middle/high school children, and college age children who spend most of the year in dorms but come home for summer.

Your offer is unethical, and puts you at risk. (Do Apple's T&C allow them to sue you for refunds on improper discounts? If you sell a system on eBay as "new, covered by warranty and AppleCare" - and Apple cancels the warranty and AppleCare are you personally at risk of suit from the buyer? Probably "yes" on both.)

^^^^You said it better than I could thumbsup.gif I saw that post, but was reluctant to chime in. I bought my Mac and the Belkin cables from Apple using my military discount. No one but me will ever get to use the discount.

Hmm, I've deleted the post. BUT it may be unethical but, illegal? I don't think so. Plus, I don't typically post pictures of the SN on eBay anyhow.

Nice to see that some owners are mac pro users as well.

Seems the VMPP is the only one that has no F&F quota? Normal EPP program allows F&F purchases as well, not just Apple EPP, just that Apple Employee's EPP has way more discount percentage (25% for themselves and 15% for F&F vs EPP's 6%). But also, VMPP has better discount percentage than EPP and even better than most of the ecom/business purchases (6% and up).

Apple kept SN for all those discounted items via EPP or similar program, including the keyboard and mouse that came with the Mac. If they found that they were sold/transferred within the first year since the purchased date, they'll void the purchaser's EPP access and the warranty. Apple employees got fired for this type of matter from time to time because some resell those discounted hardwares for profit or they have bad friends that did the same via F&F purchases through their EPP.

Why’s that? (Just wondering, I read that buying the 16 core CPU and upgrading yourself doesn’t actually save that much)

This is true. I haven’t seen the higher core count CPUs for sale less than Apple’s upgrade price and upgrading the CPU yourself isn’t without risk. So I think it’s smart to buy at least the CPU upgrade from Apple.

^^^^My thinking - I'll wait a bit, until the prices drop, and they will. I'll then buy last year's CPU, probably used from a server.

Went to the local Micro Center this past weekend here in Chicago and they have an XDR (standard glass) + Mac Pro (base model) on display. No stock of either item though.

It felt very out of place in their display section though, to be honest. I'm curious how well it will do for them...
