Hello Everyone,

I got a freshly salvaged MP3.1 2.8_Q and was wondering about the "standard" nominal temps
you got running your MP's.

According to HWSensors my Northbridge DIE is running ~ 60C/140F
What I also noticed is that the 1st CPU runs cooler then the 2nd one- reaching 58C-60C when
running some multicore compilation. Is that OK or thats too hot? Should I keep an eye on it
or simply forget about it since the Firmware takes care of fan/temp?

What happens when this thing overheats or is reaching a "boiling point"? Force shutdown?
Last, what's your power consumption in HW Sensors? Mine is in idle around ~190W on the PSU readout.

If you’re worried about temps - they seem fine - download MacsFanControl and ramp it up.

Not worrying, just want to know the nominals for reference and to compare. I think the MP knows best how to take care of its fan speeds- but I'm curious as for how it's managed.

hay my northbridge seems to run flat at 60c always so gess thats normal and the cpu's will never 100% match temp.
The gpu you have and any pci cards will change the power use a lot, ill check my power use later.

also the different workloads will stress the computer in different ways and use more or less power.

here is my 3.1 at idle and under load, about the same

Thank you, mate! 320W, dunno why people say thats much. Thinking of it, isn't that 4 casual 1990's light bulbs consumption? ;-)

well it's a lot compared to any modern system, my 5.1 only used 20w under load for ram while the 3.1 uses 90w for ram  the age is showing.

my 5.1 uses 330w max on the same test but it's got a GTX770+usb3card+ 6 drives and more ram, the 3.1 only has a gtx660 and 2 HD's so thats not bad but modern cpu/systems at idle use way less power.

my sisters macbook pro is faster than my 5.1  and id gess it's using under 100w

it's also more of a problem if you live in a hot country as every w = heat out the back

oo found a nice graph of cpu power use
