Edit: Title should read "Mac Pro dead?"

I have an early 2008 Mac Pro and got this screen on boot today. What do you think... dead video card, memory, logic board, cpu... something else?

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; CPU iPhone OS 5_0_1 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/534.46 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/5.1 Mobile/9A405 Safari/7534.48.3)

The title made me think the thread was another 'the Mac Pro is dead' thread.

+3 on video card.

Fire 4 video card! ARRRRR!

All joking aside, this is much better than a dead mac pro, and you could take the opportunity to upgrade to an OpenCL compatible card if you wish. Artifacts like this are extremely typical of video card death. You'll be back up and running within $200 or so. If you want to upgrade instead, someone will still buy your machine even if you say it needs a new gpu.

Oh most definitely your 8800GT. Those things are known for untimely death.

Sort of looked like mine ... DOA,

Possibly consider an upgrade as you have to replace it anyway.

Looks a lot like what happened to an iMac I used to own. Mine was more like parallel black-and-white staircases, if you can picture it.

I called AppleCare, who advised me to reinstall OS X. I did so, and it hasn't happened since - either to me, or to the guy I sold it to.
