Last week I came across a screaming deal for a Mac Pro. A local electronics store selling a major companies store floor models had this Mac Pro come in and it did not have the OS on the hard drive (the hard drive was a new 250 GB) and the owner had it advertized at $400.00 on Craigslist. Well I printed the ad and went in to take a look at the computer. I got talking to the owner and he had no idea what the computer was worth and I offered him $300.00 and $30.00 for a cheapo Dell monitor.
Soon I was lugging a 45 pound computer to my car with a original wireless keyboard and a wireless Mighty Mouse the power cable and a converter for the Dell computer. I get the computer home and set it up and and get my 20 inch Cinema display and read Apple instructions on setting every thing up and load Snow Leopard on the machine.
So I have been busy all week getting 2 each 1 TB drives from Macsales and I found that the machine had 4 each 1 GB of ram in it and so I ordered 8 GB of ram also from Macsales (4 each 2 GB sticks with approved Apple heat sinks) When I opened the case I had expected dust bunnies all over but this thing looked like it had come out of a clean room, it was completely clean.
As part of the deal, when I bought the Mac Pro I had to set up a G5 Power Mac up with the OS for the guy at the store, he knew how to set up Windows machines but had never done a Mac, I showed him how easy it was to wipe the hard drive and do a fresh installation off the restore discs that the Power PC had but the Mac Pro did not.
I realize that this is not the latest or greatest anymore but it sure has been fun setting it all up and I have already loaded over 8,000 pictures that was really bogging down my iMac as it only has a 250 Gb hard drive. I really think that I found a keeper of a machine..
