Do you think it's a good guess that when the Mac Pro gets its revision, the standard RAM will be doubled,to 2GB. When the new MBP's were released, the RAM was doubled. A drawback from the Mac Pro right now seems to be the expense of RAM, how probable to you think the base amount will be upgraded. I mean, it is the top of the line Pro machine, and 1GB is pathetic to represent that.

Pro RAM costing what it does, I'm not sure I'd expect that sort of bump. It'd be nice, but I think we'd much sooner see a 1GB standard for all Macs than a 2GB Pro bump at this point. Agreed, though, it'd be nice if the stock Pro config was actually usable.

i believe any update to the pro config will be cpu driven, and i don't see that happening next week. i would love to be wrong though.

I wonder if they will introduce a Blu-ray or HDDVD option.
Even if its just a ROM drive, they already have an available second optical drive bay.

Initially, Apple is going to go with Blu-Ray as they are on the Blu-Ray Assoc. Board of Directors. Many analysts and industry insiders have bolstered rumors of Blu-Ray being announced in the First Quarter of '07.

there was some speculation surrounding whether or not Blu-Ray support would be unique to Leopard or if it would work in Tiger. These guys (see link) got a Blu-Ray drive to work just great in Tiger using Toast BD 7.1.1 with Blu-Ray Support, so that shouldn't be an issue. And it's also nice to know you can upgrade yourself.

Maybe they'll support both. LG announced yesterday their first quad-format writer is due soon; CD/DVD/BR-DVD/HD-DVD writer. Interesting too that Sony have admitted they are now looking into supporting HD-DVD in future hardware. Bit of a climb-down if you ask me

I really doubt Apple's going to pick a new optical format until they can be sure which one will be the winner.
They're members of the BluRay Assoc. but their OS supports HDDVD.
There are BluRay burners out there, but they're like $850 (newegg). These are way to expensive to be popular. The dual format burners are so expensive it's ridiculous.
I'm not buying the new format until I can burn it, and I don't think Apple will either.

Front Row will come standard with Leopard, so will run on all Macs. Or so I hear, anyway.
No I don't believe they will. The Mac Pro is already such a great deal and RAM is a good source of profit for Apple and currently carries a hefty price that it would make no sense. When it comes down to it is 2GB of RAM going to help sales on a machine that is already cheaper than competitors? If someone is interested in a Mac workstation/pro desktop machine, is the fact that it only comes with 1GB going to disuade them from the purchase?
Sadly I've got to agree with Umbongo and Mac Pro RAM is far more expensive then other types of mac RAM 1 GIG seems to be industry standard.
