After updating to 10.4.8, I noticed a new string in:

Well, all the macpros are quads already. Wouldnt it be labelled "Octo"

Could be a dualcore MacPro that wasnt released, or a cheaper Macpro in the pipeline with just one dual core processor.

I would like it to be the 8-core though...

I agree...

I think its a single dual core processor Mac Pro for low end people

First of all, they won't release one just yet because it would piss off too many people. Another month or two though and it would be fair game. For many applications your quad MP would be faster than a similarly priced octo, which would have less power per core. Don't worry, you (we) bought a great computer!

I don't think that they'll ship a new MacPro before January or February of '07 ... the Quad'Xeon processors will not ship before theses dates, so ...

Yea, just checking since there will be a 8-core single processor some day  :D

Supposably that's what's supposed to be in the PS3 when it comes out, but Sony's having trouble getting decent yields on them.

Intel has already said something about having a single quadcore proccessor in january but i wouldnt expect to see an Octo-core mac pro because it would most likely involve a whole new architecture and operating system that would even recognize more than 4 cores.

Apple may very well add a octo option, but it will be mighty pricey. I don't think prices will come into an acceptable range for octo only until end of 07/beginning of 08.

Realistically, as you add each core you only get a increasingly smaller amount of increase in performance. For most of us, a really fast 2-core machine is going to be better than a slower 4-core, and 8-core even more so. They may release one higher end 8-core machine for science people who simply need big number crunching where crazy data bandwidth isnt an issue, and those who want bragging rights :D
