I'm wondering how long a 1gig post script file (.ps) takes to go through distiller. My last file took 20:48 (minutes:seconds) to produce a 100mb 96 page A5 document at 2400 DPI.

I'm not going to mention the specs of my machine, because I don't want to read 10 posts about "man, you should totally upgrade" etc. Just want to get the idea of times to see if it's cost effective for the time saving.

Any replies welcomed.

I'm going to take an educated guess because I'm working from home today on my dual 1.4 rather than the dual 2.5 G5 at work...

A file like that would probably take somewhere between 3-6 minutes, I guess. Maybe on the shorter side... but bear in mind that's just an estimate.

Thanks Blue Velvet, that's quite an improvement!

Anyone else got a rough benchmark? I'm thinking of going for a mac pro (even though adobe isn't UB).

Even though I don't have a Mac Pro, I thought that readily-available benchmarks between the dual 2.5 and Mac Pros might give some form of indication as to how that might go.

Why don't you post your 1gb PS file so that others can try it out? :D

When distiling, it helps if you leave it alone as the active window (not sure if you did that the first time around)... don't go clicking around doing other things... try it - you might be able to tell the difference. ;-)
