Those of you who use the previous gen Mac Pro's, what are you using for an external RAID solution? To put it into context I'm looking at needing 16TB of raw storage set up as a mirrored RAID set, so effectively 8TB total. I'm using an OWC RAID card now with a mercury elite pro 6TB. That seems to work well, and is pretty fast.

I don't need cutting edge speed. The RAID is for backups, both from CCC and time machine.

Any brand / configuration recommendations when hooked up to a 2009 Mac Pro with server 5?

Always been a big fan of LaCie storage. I've got a big 1u rack unit for my 6,1 at work. Should easily interface with server, as it would just be like a normal drive on your desktop.

Got a USB 3 PCIe card in your 4,1? This would get you up to 12tb raid 1 mirrored: http://www.lacie.com/products/raid/2big-thunderbolt-2/#specs

No, I don't have a USB 3 card, but that'd be simple enough. I've never looked at LaCie before, but I've seen them around since...forever. I like the look of their stuff (granted that's not a decision factor here). $949 for 12TB seems pretty reasonable. Thanks for the suggestion!

No problem, happy to help. I've got quite a few LaCie drives sitting around. Always had great luck with their support teams too in case anything goes wrong.

Totally add USB 3. Just about as fast as Thunderbolt. I threw a sonnet card in my 5,1 and love it. A small cost to add to make your raid options even zippier: http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet Technologies/USB34PME/

Great! I usually buy my accessories from OWC :)
