Mac Pro RAM confusion...

So, my Mac Pro is on it's way to me and I wanted to order some RAM.

from some of the posts I've been reading it appears that is uses some odd form of DDR2 RAM? is this correct?

So does this mean that I can't just get me some good 'ol DDR2 667 RAM from newEgg?

They have 2Gig kits for like 250.00, but the places like OWC, memorytogo and Crucial reach as high as 550.00 for what appears to be the same kit...

Can this be explained further for me? sorry, maybe I'm halucinating.

You are correct...the Mac Pros use FB-DIMMs. The FB stands for "fully buffered" a new standard that increases the performance of the memory for pro-level needs. Yes, they are much more expensive than regular DDR2 RAM. Have a look around the forums...there are a lot of threads on the topic of where to get good prices on the new RAM. There were some issues with the heat sinks on early third-party versions of the RAM, but I think most of them have been ironed out. Since I'm not a Mac Pro owner, I haven't kept up on the latest developments in that area.
