Hi guys, need your help to see what' s the best choice for my Mac pro ram upgrade. I've planned to buy 3x8gb ram for my quad 2.93 early 2009 Mac pro. My choice was going for the owc memory at 419$. Later realized I also need to pay custom duty to let them com to Italy plus another 50$ as shipping expenses. I've found a dealer on eBay who will be able to sell it for equivalent 410$ (but no custom duties and no shipping cost). The difference would be of 150$ for owc memory(cas 7) against Hynix memory (cas 9). My main usage of Mac is for photoshop, lightroom and aperture. Your advices are truly welcome!

If you can get it cheaper and the dealer is reputable and you get a lifetime warranty, do it. Hynix is good stuff. Ships in some Mac's from Apple.
I checked better and I found that the ram works at cas 9 for 1333Mhz whilest cas7 for 1066Mhz. Thus in my mac will work at cas7 as only support 1066Mhz. That's really good. I hope that together with an OCZ ssd 240gb vertex 2 on 2nd optical drive bay as primary boot hd, will really speed up my mac

Latency does matter but controlling it in OS X does not matter because you can't change timings and things anyway. Best bet is to get memory qualified for Apple systems as getting anything higher performing may just default back to what the logic board specifies. Cas 7, cas 9 does not matter. OS X runs it the way it wants to run it. I have never seen higher performing RAM make any difference on a Mac. Maybe a couple points in bench tests but negligible overall.
