Mac Pro RAM Vendor. OWC or DMS?

I've been doing business with DMS since 1986, and never got a bad stick of RAM from them. I've recommend them to other forum members here, and all who have used them have been very satisfied. I can't recommend them highly enough. OTH, I have never been impressed with OWC. I bought an SSD upgrade from them for my MBA, and if failed. The MBA now has a Transcend unit that has worked flawlessly.

I've bought from both in the past. Both are very good, in my opinion. Remember that RAM is a commodity. It really doesn't matter much who you buy it from, apart from their warranties.

I've used DMS for at least 15 years and installed their RAM in many, many machines over the years.

I literally had one stick of RAM go bad a few years ago and they were right on top of it with a replacement. This was a lifetime replacement warranty and the RAM was a few years old already. Great service!

Thank you guys for fast reply. I got another question, If i put 2x 8gb on my machine, will it read full 1333mhz or i will get drop down to 1066?
 
If your computer/CPU supports it and you get the correct type of RAM and all of them are rated to run at 1333MHz, they should not drop to 1066MHz regardless of how many sticks of RAM are installed.

I'm panning to sell my 6x2gb modules and buy 2x8gb modules
 
I bought 3x4GB RAM and 3x1TB HDD's from OWC in 2011, no problems (touch wood).

I bought a mouse from them in 2013, which turned out to be not what I wanted or needed (erroneous info on their site). I returned the product at no cost.

I bought the Accelsior S about two months ago, again no problems.

I like their website and video tutorials. I am contemplating going to 3x8GB RAM and like the fact that I can return the 3x4GB to them for a rebate. So yes, I would recommend them.

You will see some anti-OWC sentiment on here. I have no experience with DMS but I can tell you my own experience with OWC has been overall positive. I have purchased various components from them for 4-5 different desktop and laptop Macs since about 2001, including RAM, Newertech products, optical drives, and external mechanical hard drives and enclosures. I have no experience with their CPU upgrade programs or SSDs. As far as RAM goes I have had maybe 4-5 pieces of OWC RAM fail over the years out of the 20+ pieces I've purchased. 3 of those failures were the ram for a MP 3,1 with the huge heat sinks on them. In every case they took the RAM back and sent me new RAM no questions asked. I never had problems with any of the other equipment. I currently have 3x8GB of 1333 RAM in my MP 4,1->5,1 that are working great. So yes I had a few issues but they have always stood behind their products in my experience. YMMV.

I think 3 failure from 20-25 pieces is very bad. Of course you can change. But I will need to pay for shipping anyway.

3 failures were all the same type of RAM in the same order so I gave them the benefit of the doubt in case they were all part of a bad batch. The replacements worked fine. Also the MP 3,1 is known to be particular about its RAM. Anyway any one person's experiences are just anecdotal.
 
I got 32B (4x8GB) from OWC thru eBay and it was $239 after shipping instead of full price which is over $100 higher I believe.
 
Ive order 48gb of ram from macmemorynet from amazon and had no issues. Plus cheaper than OWC and has the Efrom chip in the ram.
 
I've had RAM from OWC fail on my Macbook Pro, but not on Mac Pro. They replaced it for free but yes needed to pay shipping. I did buy it in 2009 though, so I guess having a free replacement after 6 years was kind of a surprise. Stuff does break so I was quite happy with their service.
 
I've been buying RAM from DMS almost exclusively for 5 years or so. I have had one stick of RAM go bad and in that case they overnighted me a replacement stick and asked that I return the bad one with a prepaid label. Very easy to deal with.

I have not had great luck with OWC in general. I have found their products to be severely lacking at times. I have a Mercury Elite Pro Dual that has NEVER worked right and while I have gotten replacements that still fail, I cannot get a reimbursement.

DMS used to burn in all their certified RAM and verify them, dunno if they still do that. I've had one of their 5 year old RAM sticks fail, I think, after my MP overheated one day (fans off for some reason). They replaced the pair anyway without issue. Their stuff always seems to have the right heats sinks and is well constructed where other vendors may not. They seem to know what they are doing. I've also on occasion purchased other storage discs from them as well as processor upgrades back in the day. OWC has been a mixed bag for me.
