I wonder if when the nMP refurbs show up if these prices will go down....anyways living in la i can easily pick up any configuration for a fraction of these prices

I would say no...
The prices went down right when the nMP came out.
I'd suspect the price for the nMP would be $2699 for a refurb base quad.
craigslist. look around but stay away from the used vendors who sell macs for a living

For the few hundred dollars I could save buying on Craigslist, it just isn't worth it. I just had to deal with craigslist recently and was reminded how shady people can be.
I've spent $1600 on 2 8-core CraigsList Mac Pros that are in my office rendering right now. Rock solid. This is server-grade hardware that is a lot lower risk than many other things out there.
my guess is yes they will, but these are selling on ebay from 900-1200$ . I say thats a way better option.
Well I'm looking for a 12 core and I found couple of models. And as you said you get more but I really want a machine that hasn't been used, or that it comes with a full one year warranty! and most machines on ebay are 2010 models, so they have been working for 3 years now, and I feel as soon as I get it, the PSU will fail cause of age!

Exactly that's why I recently bought my new (only open box) 2012 MP 5.1 model and added Apple Care to it. It took me a while to get hold on one, because Apple NL is not allowed to sell the 2012 MP 5.1 anymore, due to regulations (internal fans) but it was really worth the time and effort doing the search.

I've gotten bored by the ebay/craigslist crapshoot, which can go either way, but there are reputable second hand dealers that take some of the guesswork out of it.
I just got a very clean 8 core 4,1 (that i'm going to flash and cpu upgrade) from macofalltrades.com, for 1100 bucks, and the customer experience has been good. There's a warantee (extendable to a year) and its passed all the hardware tests before it goes out the door. If I have to eventually do a power supply, its not the end of the world.
I notice OWC have got lots of used machines as well, though the prices aren't as keen. There's another similar second-hand seller in LA, but I can't remember their name at the moment. There must be loads of post houses selling off machines as they upgrade I would have thought.

At this time it's difficult to find a brand new open box Mac Pro. With eBay you'll need to browse regularly as sometimes a listing of an open box appears though very seldom. But with luck you may find one. Normally ask the seller if he uses a UPS protector on his machine. There are also tenured sellers who resell Mac Pros as the test the machines thoroughly before they sell. My friend bought a used Mac Pro 3 years ago and until now it's still humming along fine. No problem with the PSU. The previous owner took good care of the machine.
Yes I doubt open box will appear anymore, too late. However Refurbished is still around, I just wanted to see if they will appear till August, cause it's been couple of weeks that they haven't restocked any MPs. I mean If apple stops restocking old MPs then I guess I will start looking into ebay.

I got lucky a few months ago and was able to score an open box 2010 Mac Pro from Micro Center. It was their display system so it was in excellent condition. Cost me $859.00
Agree with Macofalltrades as a good intermediate between Craigslist/eBay and Apple refurb. Got my 3,1 for $1100 a bit more than a year ago. They even sent me a larger capacity drive than was specc'd, shipping was fast, and they followed up to make sure everything was working well.
The limited options to add in upgrades when ordering for competitive prices is also a really nice feature for people who don't want to have to install a whole bunch of upgrades right after they get their machine, too.
